An uncommon, disorienting, neurological disorder characterized by distortions of visual perception or metamorphopsias. It involves size and shape distortions of other sensory modalities, changes in vision, touch, and hearing in addition to impairments of time and body image. Alice in wonderland is associated with nervous system pathologies such as migraine aura, brain tumors, encephalopathy trauma, intracranial aneurysms, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, and temporal lobe epilepsy. Others are depressive syndrome, schizophrenia, and derealization or depersonalization disorder. It can also be an early sign of Epstein-Barr virus infection. The condition affects young children, and perceptions are most frequent at night. The disease is not harmful and eventually goes away on its own.
