A global, genetic, congenital disability affecting the production of melanin (the natural substance involved in providing color to the skin, iris, and hair). A form of hypopigmentary disorder, Albinism can be partial (in hypomelanism/hypomelanosis) or total (melanism or amelanosis). Very rarely does albinism occur in the eyes alone. Nettleship-Falls type is the most popular of ocular albinism and can lead to permanent vision loss. The poorest vision is recorded in those with the least pigmentation.
