A congenital abnormality involving deficient lacrimation (a reduction or absence in the ability to secrete tears). It presents in very few rare disorders such as triple A syndrome and NGLY1 deficiency; hence it can serve as a diagnostic clue. Alacrima is caused by agenesis, underdevelopment of lacrimal ducts and related structures, and hyposecretion of tears.
