A family of very contagious viruses that cause a range of illnesses such as pneumonia, epidermic keratoconjunctivitis, bronchitis, acute follicular conjunctiva, and so on. Adenovirus commonly causes asymptomatic severe respiratory tract infection that produces in vitro cytolysis in the cell cultures. It is found in adenoid tissue, that is, derived cell cultures, which may spontaneously degenerate with time. Adenovirus classification involves 3 major capsid antigens, which include penton, fiber, and hexon. Seven adenovirus species involving humans (A to G or 1-7) and serotypes (57 in number) make up adenovirus.
