Rufus of Ephesus was a Greek physician who wrote on pathology and anatomy. He recognized the conjunctiva as a distinct layer of the eye.
He was also the first to recognize the eye as having two distinct chambers-one fromt eh cornea to lens that was filled with water, and the other from lens to retina filled with an egg-white-like substance.
