Frederick "Fred" Hollows was an ophthalmologist who became known for his work in restoring eyesight to thousands in Australia and many other countries.
He pioneered programs in Nepal, Eritrea, Vietnam, and among Australian aborigines. He also helped to establish cheap laboratory production of IOLs.
