Ignacio Barraquer, a Spanish ophthalmologist, contributed significantly to the advancement of cataract surgery. He invented surgical instruments and procedures used in cataract surgery, many of which are named after him.
His son, Jose Barraquer (1916 - 1998), has been called "the father of modern refractive surgery." Jose Barraquer invented the cryolathe and microkeratome.
