The lateral orbital tubercle (Whitnall's tubercle), a small elevation of the orbital margin of the zygomatic bone, lies approximately 11 mm below the frontozygomatic suture. It is an important site of attachment for the check ligament of the lateral rectus muscle, the suspensory ligament of the eye, the lateral palpebral ligament, and the levator aponeurosis.
