Eyelid twitching is minor, unintended eyelid movement that occurs due to involuntary contractions of muscles. It’s a common phenomenon that’s often associated with increased stress, fatigue, lack of sleep, or too much caffeine and is almost always temporary and completely harmless. Gently massaging your eye usually relieves the symptoms. Most times the twitch goes away after getting enough sleep. However, if your eyelids are closing for no apparent reason and this lasts for several hours, or one side of your face tightens, usually near the eye, you should contact an eye doctor.
