A small, dense white spot generally located inferonasal to the posterior pole of the lens, a Mittendorf dot is a remnant of the posterior pupillary membrane of the tunica vasculosa lentis. It marks the place where the hyaloid artery came into contact with the posterior surface of the lens in utero.
