This is a form of lattice dystrophy with coexisting systemic amyloidosis. It usually manifests around age 20 years. In addition to lattice corneal changes, patients with Meretoja syndrome (Finnish type) have a characteristic facial mask; blepharochalasis; pendulous ears; cranial and peripheral nerve palsies; and dry, lax skin with amyloid deposition.
