Jansen disease is part of group of conditions known as hereditary hyaloideoretinopathies which involves vitreous liquefaction that results in an optically empty cavity except for a thin layer of cortical vitreous behind the lens and whitish, avascular membranes that adhere to the retina. Jansen disease has a high incidence of retinal detachment.
